I went to look at an 02 that was “clean and garage kept” and as I approached the car in the lot I could see a pile of flakes right by the rear quarter and the paint was bubbled and a chunk of steel was missing.

The guy shrugs and says, “What do you expect in an ‘02?”

Well, I expect it to be clean and garage kept not returning to the elements as I watch.

..fun starter car too!! The only downside is the parking break needs the wire tightened and new a starter, so it doesnt turn on until it gets a starter.

Maybe in upstate New York - on a Mazda - but, otherwise, no, that is not normal for a modern car after 16 years.
